Google Meet allows video calls from the TV

Google has added a new feature to Google Meet, its premium paid video calling platform, currently offered free until September 30,  so users can stream virtual meetings to their televisions and enhance the home office environment. .

Transmit video calls from Google Meet to the TV with the «on Cast» function to get away from mobile phones, computers and laptops and enjoy the virtual meeting from the comfort of home using a Google Chromecast

The function is called ” Google Meet on Cast ” and allows you to watch video conferences anywhere in the house through a smart TV (Smart TV). Thus, the user can follow virtual meetings without having to be glued to the computer, laptop or mobile, and pay more attention to the meetings. In addition, you can make use of these devices, which will now not be connected to the virtual meeting, to do other things with them while the video call is taking place.

In order for Google Meet users to be able to have their video calls on the TV or smart screen, it is necessary to have a Google Chromecast, a device known as a “Dongle” that allows information to be sent from a mobile device or PC to the TV.

Chromecast connects to the HDMI port of the computer and automatically receives signals from the other devices and thus virtual meetings can be transmitted from Google Meet to the TV. You may not need the Google Chromecast if your TV already includes this device, something that happens in the latest high-end models from brands like Samsung. Otherwise, you must have one to carry out the transmission.

Google is constantly trying to improve Google Meet to gain ground in a market that Zoom leads. In recent weeks, for example, it has incorporated the option to reduce outside noise in meetings, the ability to create a Meet shortcut from Gmail , or to start a video call with the push of a button , among other new features.
